Maximum Force Enterprise Graduates 3rd Class, Congratulations!
The mission at Maximum Force Enterprises, one of the partners funded by A Better LA, is to “save lives, restore communities, provide hope, and implement solutions”. February 19, Maximum Force Enterprises graduated their third class from the Professional Community Intervention Training Institute. PCITI is a 17 week program consisting of intense hands on classroom instruction. This specific graduating class is unique though, they’ve become the first ever group of specialized interventionists to be enrolled in an extra four week “street internship” program. The programplaces the participants in the streets and forces them to apply the skills they’ve been taught throughout their course in the classroom.

A Better LA spoke to Executive Director Aquil Basheer who had this to say about the graduates; “I am humbled and honored by the third graduating class of the PCITI, relationships were forged, respet was established, and more importantly a bonding of people who would have never came together have now unified in order to save lives and save communities. I thank them.”
Congratulations to all of the incredible graduates!

Five Four Presents A Day in the Life of A Better LA: A Photography Exhibit
| February 18, 2010 |
| 6:00 pm | to | 9:00 pm |
Andres Izquieta, owner of Five Four clothing retailer in Los Angeles, recently visited the A Better LA community offices in Gardena to spend a day with CURE (Common Unity Reaching Everyone) and discuss a photography project documenting “A Day in the Life of A Better LA.”
Andres brought along famed photographer Marco Bollinger to capture what the intervention workers experience is like for one full day. The day started at Reynaldo Reaser’s house at 6am in the heart of West Athens. The experience from there was a whirlwind for the photographers. They covered safe passage at Henry Clay Middle School, meetings at Helen Keller Park, a midday public transporation bus ride for a young girl named Jasmine and her twin sister, back to the school for more safe passage at 3pm, a trip to Nickerson Gardens projects, a crisis back at the park and then back to the office for more meetings and after school programs. The photos that came out of this amazing day in the life will be displayed this Thursday February 18th from 6-9pm at the Five Four retail store at the Century City Mall. There will be a chance to meet the photographers as well as the intervention workers. In addition to viewing the images from “A Day in the Life,” Andres has also designed a limited edition t-shirt to be sold exclusively at his store and online at www.fivefourclothing.com.
